Fulvic is your Fish's Friend

Fulvic is your Fish's Friend

In a recent blog we mentioned the amazing results clients of ours are getting when using humic and fulvic acid in aquaponics set-ups. Well, the good news is that it’s not only good for water and plants, but fish as well!

The reason aquaponics specialists like using humic and fulvic acid in their water is because it occurs naturally in natural water systems in the world, and is thus safe for all aquatic organisms. Obviously in a controlled environment such as an aquaponic set-up, the water is less natural than it would normally be.

When fish get sick in this environment, there’s only so many chemical applications that can work and sometimes these chemicals cause stress to fish and non-targeted organisms. So, they’re obviously a last resort.

According to studies, the use of humic and fulvic acid in aquaponics set-ups had the following effect:

1 Increase in brood yield, through prophylactic treatment of fish eggs and larvae.
2 Improvement in growth and food utilisation.
3 Improvement in condition, strength and resistance to disease, wellness and vitality of culture, particularly during transportation.
4 Faster healing of ectoparasite infected fish through therapeutic medication.
5 Suppression of secondary infection.
6 Inhibition of outbreaks of primary infection through prophylactic application.
7 Detoxification of harmful metals and chemicals in water.
8 Treatment with humic acid at concentrations of 50-90 mg/L reduced sickness and mortality.

A Nature.com scientific report has some interesting observations, particularly that these adding these bio-stimulants “to the water of fish is an easy and natural way to improve fish health and growth, and to decrease the impact of aquaculture on the environment”.

Grow forth and conquer, and remember… fulvic is your fish’s friend!
